Welfare Funerals
We offer this as a free service

We have seen an increasing rise in the number of enquiries for public welfare funerals where the costs will be borne by the authority. If you are arranging a public welfare funeral, we will look for a relative so that you can:
Inform them
who has passed
away
Inform them how
the Deceased
passed away
Pass on any
personal effects or
items of sentimental
value
Ask the relative
to pay for the
funeral
Social Benefit
It can be seen as pro-active and beneficial for authorities to find family ahead of a funeral. Notifying the family of the Deceased can only be a good thing.
The social benefit of this is providing estranged family with a sense of closure. Just because a family member is not in touch when they pass away doesn’t mean they haven’t had a prior relationship with that person and it can be a great comfort to them knowing the circumstances to which they have passed.
Economic Benefit
The economic benefit is not only that you may save yourself the cost of the funeral, but also the organisational time involved. If the relative cannot take over the arrangements, at least you have given them the opportunity to attend.
Safeguard Your Local Authority
We have had numerous reports of family coming forward after the Deceased has been buried complaining that they had not been contacted. Searching for family members before the funeral takes place also safeguards the local authority against a family member making such complaints in the future.
